N2  - Diese Arbeit widmet sich dem Versuch, die Frage nach der Wahrheit des Dokumentarfilms auf einen seiner elementaren Bestandteile einzugrenzen: dem Filmdokument. Der erste Teil dieser Arbeit beschaeftigt sich mit dem filmischen Dokument und der Gattung des Dokumentarfilms bzw. der Dokumentarfilmtheorie an sich. Nach einer Klaerung verschiedener Grundbegriffe wird das Filmdokument in verschiedenen Kontexten verhandelt (Geschichtswissenschaft, Beweisfuehrung in Gerichtsverfahren) und auf seinen Beweischarakter untersucht (Stichwoerter: Zapruder u. JFK; Rodney King).Der zweite Teil dieser Arbeit erweitert den Diskurs auf den Aspekt der Luege bzw. des Fake. Roemers Begriff des Fake als Aneignung bestimmter Wesenszuege einer Gattung zur kritischen Hinterfragung und Reflexion selbiger wird auf eine Gattung Film uebertragen, die im Gewand des Dokumentarfilms daherkommt, jedoch fiktionaler Natur ist: dem Fake-Dokumentarfilm. Als Grundlage zur Diskussion des Fake-Dokumentarfilms stuetzt sich die Arbeit auf die von Roscoe und Hight vorgeschlagene Theorie einer Einteilung in drei Stufengrade der Reflexion der Gattung Dokumentarfilm durch den Fake-Dokumentarfilm. Diese Kategorien werden erlaeutert, um sie dann anhand einiger Filmanalysen auf die Rolle vermeintlicher Filmdokumente in diesen Filmen anzuwenden. Bei der Analyse dieser Filme (Forgotten Silver, The Forbidden Quest, The Last Broadcast, Operation Lune) stehen besonders Fragen nach dem Status der betreffenden Filmaufnahmen als Dokumente und Beweismaterial, ihrer Authentizitaet, ihrer Beziehung zur Wirklichkeit, ihrer Rolle in der filmischen Narration und nach dem Diskurs, den ihre spezifische Anwendung im jeweiligen Film in Hinblick auf die Form des Dokumentarfilms eroeffnet, im Mittelpunkt. So versucht die Arbeit der Frage nach der Wirklichkeit im Dokumentarfilm/Filmdokument via des Umwegs ueber das Fake auf die Spur zu kommen.
N2  - This paper aims to narrow down the question of the trueness of the documentary film form to one of its elementary commponents: the film document. The first part of the paper deals with the nature of film documents and the documentary film form and documentary film theory as such respectively. After discussing definitions of fundamental terms the paper moves on to discuss the role of film documents in different contexts such as historical science and as evidence in legal proceedings (Zapruder and JFK; Rodney King). The second part of the paper extends the discourse to the aspect of the lie or rather the fake. Roemers definition of a ãfake" as an appropriation of essential characteristics of a form or genre as a tool for critical analysis of the same is used on a certain genre of films, which look like documentary films but are of a fictional nature: the fake-documentary film. As a ground for discussion of the fake-documentary, the paper uses Roscoe's and Hight's theory of three levels of reflection of the documentary film form by the fake-documentary. These categories are explained and then used in a few film analyse, focusing especially on the use of alleged film documents. The analyses of these films (Forgotten Silver, The Forbidden Quest, The Last Broadcast, Operation Lune) focus especially on questions concerning the status of these film documents as evidence, their authenticity, their relationship to reality, their role in the narrative of the film, and the discourse which their specific use in each film brings forward concerning the form of the documentary genre itself. The paper thus aims to answer questions concerning the reality of documentary films and film documents via the detour of the fake.
