In this interview Dr. Götz Schmidt talks about his time as an assitant of Knut Bleicher, the early BWL at the University of Cologne with Erwin Grochla and above all the details of the implementation of simulation games as a means of training and education in German corporations in the 1960s and 1970s. This interview was conducted as part of the DFG project 'Kulturtechnik Unternehmensplanspiel. Knowledge transfer and action control at the interface of economy, computerisation and mediality'. The co-operation project, which was accomplished at the HBK Braunschweig and University Bielefeld under the direction of Professor Dr. Rolf F. Nohr and Professor Dr. Jan-Otmar Hesse, researched with the emergence of the busiunes simualtions and management games in the Federal Republic of Germany of the 1950-1970s. The project focused on the implementation of business simulations as training tools and their interdepency to business planning, also the role of those simulations in the early history of use of mainframe-computers in business and corporations. Interviews with pioneers of the early business games should produce knowledge, on how those simulations were actually used, which uopian costellations wehere connected to them, and which organizational and technical problems the developers and players where confronted with. The idea of the interviews was therefore to gain access to the 'knowledge of practitioners', which is neither recorded in the extensive theoretical and introductory literature on business simualtions nor preserved in the archives of the companies and institutions involved in the organisation of simulation games and seminars for managers. Dr. Bernt Högsdal and Prof. Dr. Horst Koller were also interviewed. The interviews were conducted between December 2014 and March 2015 by the project team members Dr. Tobias Conradi and Dr. Theo Röhle.
