Die Magisterarbeit „Widerständiges Web? Emanzipatorisches Potential des Web 2.0 aus einer kritischen Perspektive“ steht in einer sozialkritischen Tradition und beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, welche Auswirkungen die neuen Kommunikationsformen im Internet auf politische Diskussionen in massenmedialen Öffentlichkeiten haben. Im Besonderen wird diskutiert, ob die neuen Öffentlichkeiten im Web 2.0 demokratischer strukturiert und weniger vermachtet sind als die etablierten Medienöffentlichkeiten und in welcher Beziehung sie zueinander stehen. Nach einer kurzen Einleitung wird in einem ersten Schritt der Untersuchungsgegenstand Web 2.0 anhand der bekanntesten Anwendungen und in seiner Entstehungsgeschichte vorgestellt. Anschließend werden drei idealtypische Netzwerktopologien konzeptualisiert, welche die komplexen Strukturen und Prozesse des Untersuchungsgegenstandes in analytische Modelle überführen, auf die im weiteren Verlauf der Arbeit gezielt zurückgegriffen werden kann. Zu Beginn des dritten Kapitels werden zunächst die medientheoretischen Grundlagen für die folgende Untersuchung erarbeitet. Dabei werden einige prominente sozialkritische Theorieentwürfe in ihrem historischen gesellschaftlichen Kontext und mit Bezug auf das technisch-apparative Medienumfeld vorgestellt. Von zentraler Bedeutung sind dabei zum einen das an den Arbeiten von Jürgen Habermas ausgerichtete Modell einer „deliberativen Öffentlichkeit“ und zum anderen verschiedene Konzeptionen von „Gegenöffentlichkeit“, welche den Öffentlichkeitsbegriff kritisch hinterfragen und seiner analytischen Dimension einen interventionistischen Blickwinkel beistellen. Besondere Beachtung finden dabei aktuelle Diskussionen um das politische Potential computervermittelter Kommunikation, wie auch Arbeiten aus dem Umfeld der British Cultural Studies. Im letzten Teil werden die analytischen und theoretischen Vorarbeiten der vorangegangen Kapitel zusammengeführt um das Web 2.0 auf sein politisches Potential zu durchleuchten.

This thesis "Widerständiges Web? Emanzipatorisches Potential des Web 2.0 aus einer kritischen Perspektive" (Resistive web? Emancipatory potential of the web 2.0 from a critical perspective) stands in a sociocritical tradition and is dealing with the question what effects the new forms of internet communication have on political discussions in the public spheres of mass media. In particular, this paper deals with the question whether the web 2.0 is able to democratize (social) negotiation processes and to emancipate its users. Following a brief introduction, as a first step the object of investigation "web 2.0" will be specified by presenting the most important applications and their historical development. Afterwards, three ideal types of network topologies will be conceptualized in order to convert the complex structure and processes of the object of investigation into analytical models that can be made use of and referred to in the following part of the text. Chapter three starts with media theoretical deliberations that provide the basis for the following analysis. At this point, some important critical theories will be introduced in their historical and social context and with regard to the technical background. The most important theories are, on the one hand, the model of a deliberative public which is influenced by Juergen Habermas and, on the other hand, several concepts of "Counter-Public Spheres" that question the term "public" and attribute an interventionistic perspective to its analytical dimension. Here a special focus lies on the latest discussion about the political potential of computer-based communications as well as on texts from the British Cultural Studies. Finally, the analytical and theoretical parts of the text are merged in order to search for emancipatory potential in the web 2.0.
